Geography

The Department of Geography was established in June 1976. The Department has faculty strength of four, comprising one associate professor & Head Prof. Jawahar Chaudhari, and three assistant professors Dr. Shrikant Ghadge. Mr. Kuldeep Waghmare and Mr. NamdevJadhav. The Department of Geography offers under graduate (BA) course.

The department is providing the world class teaching facilities to the students through offline/online classes, Seminars, webinars and Audio-visual class etc. The department has various Geographical Instruments such as surveying instrument includes Dumpy Level Plane table. Prismatic Compass, Land Measuring Chain etc. Weather instrument includes Maximum and Minimum Thermometer, Wet and Dry bulb Thermometer, Cup anemometer, Wind Wane, Barometer, Rain gauge etc. Audio-Visual Instrument includes OHP. Slide Projector, Computer. Television, CD player and Margadarshika Cassettes etc. The department also has Pocket Stevenson Screen, Stereoscope, Binocular, Toposheets, Aerial Photographs, Weather Maps 3D Globe and different geographical models of landscape.

Department of Geography always puts extra efforts in academic improvement of students by conducting the various activities like guest lectures, Study Tours Village Survey and weather observatory visits. A visit to the various academic institutes is a part of syllabus hence teachers and student visit to Agricultural Exhibitions and Geographical interested places in Maharashtra. In each academic year department conducts short study tour/field excursion for students to have taste of on field experience beyond the classroom study. Geography department also celebrates different days like (Bhugol Din World Environment Day, World Ozone Day, World Population Day, Earth Day) and conduct various activities like Exhibition of Geographical instruments. Essay Writing, Poster and Slogan Competition on different environmental themes, online quiz competitions etc.

There will always be a wide range of jobs open to well trained and motivated geographers. These can include research oriented jobs (for those who have graduated either with Bachelors or with Masters Qualifications), as well as policy oriented jobs ingovernment. The environmental field is wide open: the Resource Management Act has created a vast market for geographers in consultancy, regional and local government. Those who gain technical expertise in areas such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing can be in heavy demand from both the public and private sectors. Other options include: Geo-Scientist, Geological Assistant, Development analyst, Country or Rural planner, Environmental consultant, Cartographer, Recycling manager, Weather analyst, GIS analyst, Travel agent. Soil conservationist, Landscape Architect. Land Manager, tourism manager etc. There are many organizations where a Geography student can establish his/her career.
